The 10 main reasons for perform workloads from VMware on IBM Cloud

IBM Cloud and VMware solutions

In 2016, VMware and IBM formed a strategic partnership to provide customers with access to a native VMware environment “free in man” in IBM Cloud data centers (located on all continents except Antarctica). VMware customers can “lift and change” and ultimately transform their local environment into the IBM Cloud without needing to refactor their applications and workloads. In the last years, we have created a series of unique solutions for VMware workloads and I want to highlight the most convincing value propositions.

1 – Access to hypervisor and complete administrator
VMware Solutions on IBM Cloud gives customers full access and hypervisor and full administrative access to vCenter, PSC, NSX and any additional service. Customers who implement their VMware environment on the IBM Cloud have the same control, security and functionality as their local environment. We provide a completely native VMware environment, which does not require changes in existing tools or processes. The only difference is that it is consumed in a cloud model.

2 – Multiple SDDC configurations and hardware options
We understand that customers have different requirements and we have incorporated flexibility into our solution. Customers can choose from the automated configurations of software-defined data centers (SDDC) – VMware vCenter Server (VCS) and VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), which are automatically provisioned in hours to Data Centers worldwide. Within VCS and VCF, customers can adapt the environment to their workloads because we offer six different computing options, including RAM and storage options (vSAN and NFS), which offer more than 100 different options.

3 – Bring your own license support (BYOL)
Customers have invested a significant amount of resources and money into their VMware licenses. Recognizing the business implications, we allow BYOL customers their VMware licenses, which are automatically provisioned with a VCS and VCF environment. We support BYOL for vCenter Server, vSphere, NSX and vSAN.

4 – Managed by the client
In addition to understanding that customers have their own practical practices, we design VMware Solutions on the IBM Cloud so that they are managed by the customer, which allows users to use the same processes and administration that they use in their installations. This means that customers are not required to install patches and updates, and to manage their surroundings, they can use additional tools like vRealize Automation, vRealize Log Insight and any solution. VMware Solutions on the IBM Cloud is an extension of the surroundings of the customers.

5 – Multiple storage options
Some work loads are performed in different types of storage, so we wanted to provide robustness and options to ensure that we implement optimized storage for work loads and customer applications. Customers can choose vSAN All-Flash, Endurance File Storage and NetApp ONTAP Select. Customers who use Veeam and IBM Spectrum Protect Plus (our other security copy solutions) can now use IBM Cloud Object Storage.

6 – Security and compliance.
Recognizing that safety is one of the main causes of vacillation in the adoption of the Nube, we design our VCS and VCF solutions to alleviate these concerns. Our VCS and VCF are housed in unique and exclusive surroundings, which eliminates the “noisy vecino” effect and the corruption of data from other tenants. VCS and VCF also integrate industry-leading security solutions, such as Intel / HyTrust, F5 and Fortinet. HyTrust provides data encryption and sovereignty, F5 enables load balancing at the gateway and uniform security policies, and Fortinet allows consistent security policies between local facilities and the IBM Cloud.

7 – Disaster recovery and support solutions
Customers wait for a 24-hour activity time, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and with the threatening threats of cyber attacks and natural disasters, keep the activity time active if essential. Let us recognize that having a resilience strategy is a necessity. VMware Solutions on the IBM Cloud have three resilience tools: Zerto (disaster recovery), Veeam (disaster recovery and security copy), and IBM Spectrum Protect Plus (security copy), which allows customers to reduce downtime . These offers are hypervisor-based solutions. In addition to exposing our hypervisor, customers have access to the functions and advanced native functions of these solutions. IBM Resiliency provides managed services for Veeam and Zerto.

8 – Red trunk and geographic reach
VMware Solutions for IBM Cloud is available in more than 30 data centers worldwide. Once a customer has implemented an environment in the IBM Cloud, he can insure replication of the trunk of a private network and migrate his workloads to other IBM Cloud data centers for free. Our worldwide private trunk trunk without meters allows for equal connectivity, so users can easily migrate work loads between their implemented environments. For example, if you have a production environment and a support environment in another data center, the daily / weekly exchange rate would be completely free, which would make a significant cost for the customer.

9 – The VMware experience
IBM and VMware have been partners for decades and, over the years, IBM has acquired extensive experience in VMware. We have over 1,000 certified VMware professionals and business partners who can provide managed services for the VMware Solution on the IBM Cloud if a customer prefers that their VMware environment is managed. IBM Cloud was the first to market the delivery of the VMware Cloud Foundation in the cloud and the IBM Cloud recently received the Award for Membership in the VMware 2017 Year, highlighting our experience and innovation in VMware.

10 – Migration is easier
We combine our VMware vCenter Server (VCS) and VMware Hybrid Cloud Extension (HCX) in VMware vCenter Server with Hybridity Bundle, enabling customers to gain the flexibility of VCS and the migration capabilities of HCX. HCX enables clients to create an abstraction layer that will allow them to migrate and modernize their local environment to the cloud without changing IP or MAC addresses. We have other migration tools, such as Zerto and NSX, that allow customers to choose the migration solution that best suits their workloads. If you need assistance with migration, IBM Migration Factory offers a service where we work on-site to design, plan, and migrate your environment to the cloud. VMware Solutions in IBM Cloud provides an extension of customers’ local VMware workloads in a flexible and salable cloud model.
