A Cloud Systems Administrator is responsible for working in a mixed Windows and Unix software environment. The responsibility of the individual is to manage the instances of the cloud infrastructure services and the multiple cloud servers. The professional also leads, oversees and maintains, multiuser computing environment as per the requirements of the organization. The individual in this position must have strong technical knowledge of virtual machines (IaaS, Writing Code (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS).
The cloud systems administrator will have to develop, configure, implement and manage the systems that comprise the underlying cloud platform. The professional assists in setting up public or private cloud systems. They have to learn how to balance workload and deploy them in an automated way. The individual should monitor and alter the systems as per the prescribed methodology.
The Cloud System Administrator is the one who establishes and executes the cloud operations as per the specifications and parameters. They should select the cloud providers as well keeping in mind the requirements. It is also the individual’s responsibility to manage and upgrade operating systems.
Implement & Integrate
The technician usually monitors and analyzes the capabilities and performance of the systems. They compare, evaluate, and implement new technologies, and integrate systems into the computing environment. It is the individual’s responsibility to document systems infrastructure for the convenience of the users.
Security & Strategies
The Cloud Systems Administrator should provide all the necessary assistance to the cloud servers, including security configurations, patching, and troubleshooting. The personnel also helps to maintain system security strategies, policies, and procedures.
As a requirement, the cloud systems administrator should have good knowledge of Open LDAP, Proofpoint, Active Directory, Exchange, Office 365, Azure, AWS, GCP, and other Windows-based and Linux technologies. The ability to configure VMs and Web Applications are added advantage to become a cloud system administrator.
Anybody interested in taking on a cloud systems administrator position must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, electronics, or telecommunications. IBM Certified Deployment Professionals are responsible for planning, designing, installing, configuring, customizing, troubleshooting, skill transferring and supporting IBM products, including IBM WebSphere Application Server, IBM MQ, IBM Tivoli and Rational products.
IBM Certified Deployment Professionals are responsible for managing computer architecture and its components. They must establish an asset cycle management that includes inventory, contracts, purchasing, resources, work management, service requests, and security. They are responsible for system setup and administrative tasks.
These certified experts must identify and rectify any issues related to IBM Management Solutions. They must have proper knowledge of the IBM Security Framework and its relationship to other system components. Deployment Professionals are further responsible for building and managing IBM Security rules and reports and for resolving any other issue that may arise, and they must be able to install and configure IBM Security components.
Deployment Professionals should have a strong understanding of primary computer architecture systems. They must be able to deal with any issue related to security technologies, such as firewalls, encrypted keys, SSL, HTTPS, SSH, intrusion detection, routing switch ACLs, VLAN, Span Ports, and other technologies. It is also important that they have expertise in various TCP/IP Level 1 skills.
IBM Certified Deployment Professionals must be well-versed with LINUX operating system commands such as vi, iptables, ssh, cat, tail, grep and others. They must be capable of understanding both vulnerabilities and vulnerability scanners. They must also have basic proficiency in CVSS and other scoring systems and have knowledge of shell scripting.
Deployment Professionals are responsible for managing both operating systems and databases. They must have a good understanding of hardware systems and virtual machines, networking tools, and protocols. These certified experts must be able to fulfill all information security regulations. They must further have database administration experience and experience with web server, components , WebSphere Application Server, IBM MQ and Tivoli process automation engine application toolsets. Deployment Professionals must also be able to use single sign-on protocols and multi-factor authentication as well.
Job candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Electronics or some related field. Employers usually prefer those who have prior work experience. Some organizations also prefer candidates who have a master’s degree or some specialization.
